Dubai, that glimmering city-state on the Persian Gulf, could be described as the little destination that could. In its improbable location at the edge of the Arabian sands, it has powered on, through oil crises, global economic slow-downs and regional conflicts, to become a playground and industry powerhouse in the Gulf that few other spots could rival.
These days it is seeing tourism numbers top 15 million, hotel room inventory top 100,000 rooms, a huge international airport that is soon to be outsized by Dubai Central World Airport that will be the world’s largest after completion; add skyscrapers — the world’s highest — rising up 2,722 feet with Burj Khalifa, and there is no stopping in sight.
Insert at least ten theme parks already opened or under construction and you have what some are tabbing Orlando 2.0, a destination that suits all comers, whether for business, vacation or even cosmetic surgery. The message in Dubai is come for the possibilities – and bring the kids.
The Address to have in Dubai
Take your pick of five upscale accommodations through The Address brand. The Address hotels are owned by Dubai’s Emaar Properties, one of the top developers in Dubai. All of The Address brands are luxury and top picks for business or pleasure, while each offers its own spin on what a Dubai stay should be.
The newest in The Address family is Address Boulevard, which opened this month in Downtown Dubai across from Dubai Mall. The opulent 196-room hotel is art-focused and features 251 art works on exhibit, made by 48 artists. Rooms, lounges and public areas afford views of Burj Khalifa – and that includes the exquisite pool area with a central cascading fountain. Don’t forget to checkout The Library at Address Boulevard for rare finds and compelling photo material. The property is described as a lifestyle hotel. Features, menus, meeting spaces and spa offerings are all tagged according to experiences they evoke.
The Address Dubai Mall
Dubai is a shopping mecca for most visitors so a stay in the trendy Address Dubai Mall puts you at the doorstep of Burj Khalifa and its wild water show. The Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower is attached to The Dubai Mall, one of the largest shopping and entertainment destinations in the world. At the Address Dubai Mall find 244 signature rooms and suites and the choice of five spirited restaurants and lounges. Other perks include a top-shelf spa and wellness facilities, a kids club when moments call for childless shopping excursions, a swimming pool, and hair salon. Rooms, made for business and large enough to enjoy as a family, have balconies and sparkling city views.
The Address Dubai Marina
This 200-room five-star hotel looks over the Dubai Marina with easy proximity to Dubai Marina Mall. From studio configurations to three-bedroom duplex, every accommodation has a private balcony overlooking the marina, where it is now possible to make an Uber-style connection to CharterClick and ride a yacht, rather than a taxi, to spots around Dubai. At The Address Dubai Marina, however, there is plenty to do on site – from relaxing in the hotel’s elevated infinity pool, dining at a choice of five onsite restaurants or indulging in spa treatments. For large functions, The Address Dubai Marina chimes in with one of the city’s largest hotel ballroom’s, able to accommodate a thousand guests, reception style and in the glow of natural light, surrounded by floor to ceiling windows. This address lies halfway between the airport and Downtown Dubai, a 20-minute ride from Al Maktoum International Airport.
Walkers will love the location, as it is a five-minute walk to Pier 7, a happening dining and entertainment hot spot. The beach is quite close as well. Amblers who want to get out and explore the town will find this Address an easy stroll to two metro stations, both just a kilometer away.
The Address Montgomerie Dubai
From yachts to golf – The Address has it all. Those seeking the green fairways of Dubai will want to stay at The Address Montgomerie Dubai. There they will find expansive vistas panning a 7,396-yard championship links-style golf course designed by Colin Montgomerie. The course is managed by Troon Golf (think: Westin Turnberry, Scotland and Troon North, Arizona). Don’t miss the par 5 fourth signature hole, tabbed the Snake Hole for its saddleback fairway that doglegs around the greens with two bunkers behind forming the eyes of the snake.
The Address is one of Dubai’s few truly intimate boutique properties with only 21 suites. Guests can enjoy a variety of five-star in-room facilities including high-speed Internet, gourmet coffee stations, luxe toiletries and a vast movie and music library.
For events and conferences, The Address Montgomerie Dubai offers dedicated professional event managers to customize unique packages for private functions.
Location for The Address Montgomerie Dubai Golf Resort & Spa is next to the Media and Internet cities, for many of the business travelers staying in Dubai. Downtown Dubai is a 15-minute drive away. Dubai International Airport will run about 20 minutes.
The Palace Downtown Dubai
For those travelers seeking a sense of place The Address’s Palace in Old Town is that place. Keyhole arches, date palms and Arabesque lanterns line the corridors around a petal-filled pool leading to the lobby. The hotel’s plush 242 guest rooms and 81 suites are immersed in dark wood paneling carved in Arabian designs, and come with plenty of local touches – date snacks, slender Ottoman tea pots, carved inlaid boxes. Seven design styles are available, each a private balcony that overlooks the Dubai Fountain or Burj Lake. The Palace is directly connected to Souk Al Bahar, a modern shopping destination with Arabesque architectural features, and is in close proximity to The Dubai Mall. Unusual segues from local fare include Asada as an Argentine steakhouse and Thiptara for Thai seafood cuisine.
The Address Downtown Dubai
The Address Downtown Dubai was the first of the hotel series and is considered the flagship property. Unfortunately, it closed after a fire in 2015, but the 63-story-high property will be coming back on line later this year. The contemporary hotel will resume its location at more than 1000 feet above the street with 196 rebuilt rooms and suites. It will once again offer a spa by ESPA, club level and spa suites with pools an infinity pool over the city, a 24-hour fitness center, a business lounge, children’s programs, meeting and event venues, and fine dining.
